Reboot My Computer

When I reboot my computerit is usually because I have an infection.  I do not even bother to remove the

infection, but instead restore the operating system using an image that I keep up to date.  Using Norton Ghost or Partimage it only takes about ten minutes to completely restore my computer back to a known good configuration.  If I do not restore the computer the virus usually returns because of a down-loader that the anti-virus program missed.  I love the convenience that an image utility provides, because I know I am never without my computer for more than a few minutes.

Computer Reboots

When my computer reboots all by itself it usually means we have a computer overheating problem.  Sometimes virus infections can cause a computer reboot, but usually on warm days the computer will overheat and begin random reboots.  There are thermal monitors on the motherboard below the CPU that will trigger a shutdown if the temperature gets to high.  This over heat feature protects the CPU and the motherboard from heat damage that could otherwise occur.  You can adjust the temperature limits either higher or lower from the BIOS setup program.  To get to the BIOS setup program you need to restart the computer and press and hold the delete key (some computers might have you press a different key and there is usually a message displayed when the computer first starts as to what key you need to press) until you see the BIOS setup screen.  You will need to hunt around the BIOS setup to find the CPU temperature adjustments.  You will also find a warning limit that you can set.  The CPU fans usually have a speed control that can also help regulate the temperature.  If you cannot reduce the heat to a safe level you can add additional fans to the back of the case or possibly add a better CPU cooler.  There are many different types of CPU coolers available.  There is even water cooled and heat pumps that can be installed if you are over clocking and need additional cooling.

When the need arises for rebooting computer, there could be

several different reasons.  One reason might be to just restart the computer because of a system hang or freeze.  Hanging or freezing could be a driver conflict or a registry problem. You should check the suspected hardware manufactures website for updated drivers or engineering notes that might help with the problem. You should also run a good registry cleaning utility.  The registry is a very large database that gets easily corrupted and contains all operating system configurations and changes to accommodate all hardware and software.  Anytime or add or remove hardware or software you run the risk of corrupting the registry.

Reboot My Computer

This term is also used when the need arises to return the computer to factory default settings.  This can be accomplished using either a special key press during startup or an image CD that deletes and restores the operating system.  This will also remove any installed programs and delete all data and personal files.  This is usually not the desired option to take since to takes so long to get all your programs reinstalled and restoring all your data and files from backups.

This term is similar to the above term so the procedures would be the same.

This can happen for several reasons.  One it could be a virus that is causing the reboot.  Also it could be an over heating CPU and motherboard that has thermal limit sensors that automatically shutdown the computer to prevent hardware damage from an overheating CPU.  Power supplies can also cause a computer to shutdown and reboot if they are failing or operating at their maximum output.

Rebooting A Computer

This term could mean the process used to restart a computer in Safe Mode.  Safe Mode will allow you to remove an incompatible hardware driver or video setting that is not compatible with the monitor and you have a back screen or information on the screen is not readable.  During startup you press the F8 key and a menu opens and you select Safe Mode.  Now you can go to the Device Manager and remove the problem driver or reset the video to a compatible monitor setting.

Reboot A Computer

This term could mean to restart the computer using a Live CD to get control of the hard drive in order to copy important data or files when the operating system fails and prevents you from accessing your data.  Live CDs are usually Linux distributions that can read and write files from NTFS file systems.  After you restart the computer using the Live CD you locate your data or files and simply copy them to an external device, such as, a flash drive or external hard drive.
